Today was the appointed day for our Mammouth Cave adventure. We signed up for two walking tours...each around 2 hours long. The first one was called the Frozen Niagara, named for a formation that looks like its namesake, and the second one was the Historical tour. They were VERY different and both very interesting. The first one had more formations and we got to see some very impressive vertical shafts. The Historical tour highlighted some of the uses of the caves through the years....including an experiment in which it was used as a tuberculosis hospital! We saw some huge rooms (hence the name....Mammouth Cave) and went through Fat Man’s Misery, a lengthy NARROW passage where we frequently had to turn sideways to get through. There were also numerous sections in which you had to crouch to get through. All in all, it was a wonderful day trip. Oh, and on top of that, we saw three deer and quite a few wild turkey....those things always make me happy!
