After a good night's sleep...lulled by the sound of Big Laurel Creek and the cicadas...we headed out for Max Patch, not knowing what we would be seeing, but as always, hoping for some good views. Again, we traveled on a gravel road...better in some spots than others...and kept climbing. Switchback after switchback...no waterfalls this time, but that's okay. The scenery was totally different, Once we parked and started up, this was our path going up to the top of Max Patch...a knob that had been cleared many, many years ago for grazing. It has remained unforested (is that even a word) and is maintained by the Forest Service. It has to take a lot of work to keep it in this state....wild, but passable and contained!
