Okay, so it's only the second day of the new year, but I hope it's NOT indicative of a trend....that could be scary!

Let me share a little of my day...I made my way to the car dealership to have the left headlight on our car replaced (having called them last week so they could have the part there). After settling in and having a nice conversation with a young lady who was reading one of the Joyce Meyers' books, I was informed that the wrong headlight had been delivered, and that they wouldn't have the correct one until late in the day. BUT, since it is covered under our extended warranty, they would provide me with a rental car, and it would only take about 5 minutes. That sounded good, but not so quick! In about ten minutes a gentleman came to pick me up and take me over to the rental site...still okay. Once inside, I waited a good fifteen minutes to be waited on, then as I handed over my driver's license and debit card, the pressure began. Did I want additional insurance. No, I didn't....we are covered under our auto policy. Well, did I know that if ANYTHING happened to the car, we would be totally liable...and most accidents happen on the way home? After all, see that Silverado out there....it was nailed leaving the parking lot and we (rental agency) had to collect a $1000.00 deductible from the customer on the spot! No, thank you, I don't want to pay for the additional insurance (in fact, I really don't want a rental car, I want a loaner, but I guess they don't do that down here). So now I am presented with a contract that has "100% LIABLE" stamped on it in bold black in three different places! From that moment on, the agent was less than friendly and helpful, but I finally squeezed the car out of its parking space (with much fear and trembling, lest I put a scratch in it) and was on my way back to the rig.

Now I need to find someone to notarize our signatures on a document we received in the mail. Simple, right? Call the bank, they usually have someone, and we bank there. No problem!???
WRONG! First branch I called, no one answered so I was transferred to the automated 24-hour national banking center. Not much help there, I'm afraid! So I tried a branch near the car dealership, thinking I would be back that way (hopefully) tomorrow morning and could get it done then. Sure enough, someone answered the phone, and yes, there was a notary on site. GREAT! But hold on....she then explained that they didn't do "legal" documents. I asked what they considered a legal document....she didn't know, but if I wanted to bring it in, they could determine if it was something that they could notarize. As a former legal assistant, I'm thinking, "Ummm, if it is notarized, it becomes a legal document....I'm confused!" I'm NOT taking it there....they may want to try and sell me some notarization insurance or something!

Welcome to my day! Maybe this is just a glitch....and not a portend for 2008, please!!!!
