Alaska Adventure - Days 5 & 6

A rainy start to yet another day (Day 5)....after all, it IS the rainy season here!
Yet again, tho', the rain stopped and the beautiful sights just kept on coming....

In retrospect, Mr. Man and I thought it would have been fun to count how many of these little Class C motorhomes we saw....they were everywhere....a favorite of many who want to see Alaska!
Shortly after we arrived at our lodge in Denali, we got on yet another bus and headed into Denali National Park....took a nature walk.....

Uh oh....looks like there was some snow here earlier....
...a grouse among the colorful ground cover
...and that rain?  Well, it is now snowing it's behind off!

We didn't see a whole lot of wildlife on this day...did see several bull moose with HUGE antlers, but they were too far away and the visibility too poor to get an identifiable photo.

Time to leave the park and head back to the lodge....
Day 6 - We didn't have time for excursions today before we left for Mt. McKinley Lodge, but we did have time to explore the Denali "compound" a little.....
I loved the variety of begonias that were everywhere....HUGE blossoms, colorful, and each one so different....

A stroll through the resort...

I don't think I'd ever get tired of the majestic views....

We're finally on the road again (note smudges and glare from windshield)...

Our first real glimpse of Mt. McKinley, now Mt. Denali...."shoulder views"....the top is hidden among those clouds (a very common occurrence).  Actually, we were told that only 30% of people who come to Alaska and hope to see "The Mountain" actually do!

 Just love the craggy peaks....
 Our home for the night.....
We decided to hike a couple of the shorter trails before going in for dinner....

Rhubarb growing in one of the gardens....

Rose buds....and, yes, it was snowing yesterday!
 Twilight time....
We had dinner at "20320" - so named for the elevation of Mt. McKinley!  This was a sign this was posted near our table!
And we closed out the evening sitting around a campfire....a nice ending to the day.
Tomorrow it will be an early start as we catch the shuttle to Talkeetna for our jetboat ride before heading to Whittier to board the ship.
